San Andrés, Providencia y Santa Catalina son tres islas que con otros cayos e islotes conforman el único territorio insular del Caribe de Colombia. Es el departamento más extenso del país; sólo tienen 52.5 km2 de tierra firme, pero con su territorio marino suma una extensión de 350.000 km2. Posee más del 75% de las áreas coralinas colombianas y el 6% del área total del mar Caribe.

En este Archipiélago la brisa suave refresca el andar, los paisajes maravillan la mirada y el espíritu, los colores son vivos y brillantes por la luz del sol, se puede escuchar el vaivén de las olas del mar y es posible que una noche la luna verde haga su aparición.

Se encuentra una cultura de tradiciones vivas en su comunidad raizal, diversidad de fauna y flora terrestre y marina. El visitante encuentra en su estadía tranquilidad y paz, o si lo prefiere, mucho movimiento: se puede tomar el sol y nadar en una de las hermosas playas, nadar con mantarrayas, avistar aves, realizar actividades náuticas, bucear en un mar cálido y transparente, irse de rumba, comer deliciosa comida de mar, tradicional de las islas o de otras latitudes.
